Creating a team of superheroes is no small task. Every member of the group has got to have some unique talent that dignifies himself or herself. But what would happen if the group of superheroes turned out to be caricatures of our imagination? The film “Rise of the Guardians” is basically that idea expanded to an hour and a half. The movie includes some notable figures from our imagination and puts a superhero story given to them. While the movie delivers the action very well, it goes by pretty quick. “Rise of the Guardians” takes everything about some important imaginary figures and turns them into heroes.
The plot of the film centers on a group of legendary figures called the Guardians. The Guardians comprise of Santa (Alec Baldwin), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), and the Sandman (he doesn’t talk throughout the movie). They get a warning that an evil presence known as Pitch (Jude Law), aka the Boogeyman, is going to turn the world into a land filled with darkness. This puts the Guardians in a tough spot, so they going to recruit a new member, Jack Frost (Chris Pine) to join them to stop Pitch once and for all.
“Rise of the Guardians” takes its subject material and uses it to the fullest extent. The story is easy to understand and it gives the kids in the audience a chance to see their favorite holiday figures come to life. The cast does a very good job in their specific roles, and it was a surprise to hear Santa in a Russian accent. But what really makes the movie stand out is the animation. Everything is presented in wonderful detail and it looks amazing; especially in 3D. The character designs are unique they provide a lot of backstory for each of the characters (although the story mainly centers on Jack Frost, but that’s okay). Overall, “Rise of the Guardians” is definitely something for animation enthusiasts.
The only negative criticism about the movie is the pacing. While the action is great, everything most really fast. It seems like the filmmakers were mainly focusing on the 3D element of the movie, that they forgot to slow the movie down and give the audience some time to take in what is being presented to them.
In conclusion, “Rise of the Guardians” is a well-thought animated movie that brings together some of the most notorious figures from our imagination and putting as a superhero team. If the movie had slowed its pace down by a bit, then it would have been acceptable to a viewing audience. But as it stands, the film is a great treat for anyone with an eye for animation and a creative imagination.
