Cal (Steve Carell) and Emily (Julianne Moore) married for ever finally and unfortunately is hitting a speed bump in their marriage. The speed bump has a name – David Lindhagen (Kevin Bacon). Robbie (Jonah Bobo) their 13 year old son is a true believer in true love, believes that his parents will get back together since soul mates never give up on each other. Cal as any man would turns to alcohol at some fancy bar. Vodka Cranberry is his choice, not the manliest cocktail on the menu. Jacob (Ryan Gosling) is on the hunt for a new companion when he does realize Cal. He takes it up as a challenge to re-invent Cal and make him find himself and to win his wife back; his techniques though are quite unorthodox.

Marginally overrated by viewers CRAZY STUPID LOVE is not most certainly Steve Carells best work.  In my eye Carell is a Jim Carrey replacement at first who has proven to become otherwise with his array of outstanding movies and I will not even begin to go into his talent of diverse facial expressions. Hollywood seems to be going through an entire make over and re categorizing most of the stars and re organizing the stereo type portrayals of the last decade. I am sensing Ryan Gosling, Chris Evan and Ryan Reynolds is sweeping in and grabbing some of the roles that would have been rightly for Cruise, Pitt or Clooney. Just like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and George Clooney (He never ages!) took over the scenes from De Niro, Pacino and Eastwood. A most welcome change to the viewers and high time we accepted some of the stars of yesterday are slowly yet effectively being phased out, however I am most certain indeed they all have a good decade or even more of screen time left for them. DO NOT PANIC! Ryan Gosling who has returned to the screens after a short break in 2010, seem to be doing things right. Amazed me in his very slick performance in CRAZY STUPID LOVE; nothing short of great. CRAZY STUPID LOVE is more a drama as much it is a comedy. The casting of comedy icon Steve Carell may mislead the viewer along with the ad campaign. This movie is best described as a pendulum that swings in the old grandfather’s clock in your old folk’s house. It is quite equally balanced with comedy and drama; it swings both ways and regular intervals. The disappointment is that all the comedy is shown in the trailer and all the drama is a bit of a surprise! Julianne Moore and Emma Stone keep a low profile. The script although recognizes them as supporting cast, Carell and Gosling dominate the lions share thus reducing the focus of the viewer’s towards the characters of the female stars. Whilst I would not recommend this movie to any one, viewing pleasure is quite subjective. Hence let me leave you at this. I was disappointed with the false advertising, I was bored yet I laughed at one point until my sides hurt and at one point I felt it was amazing.
