When I first saw the previews for Horrible Bosses I have to say I was interested. I mean Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis? I thought, “This could be good.”
Unfortunately that’s all that it was, good.
The quick rundown…
Three buddies have horrible bosses that are making life miserable. To solve this problem they each plan to kill one of the other ones boss. The comedy comes in when they realize they are in no way prepared to accomplish such a task.
OK, the story was good. I know what it was but more on that in a minute. First the good, this trio of guys are great. Bateman played his usual dorky straight man, Sudeikis is great as the smart ass smooth talker, and the scene stealer of them all Charlie Day. Known for his Always Sonny in Philadelphia role, Day has a useless idiotic way about him that is hilarious and it really shines here.
In addition to these guys our villains are played by a formidable trio of their own that includes Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston. Spacey was awesome as the main horrible boss who torments pour Jason Bateman. His skill for rattling of sadistic sarcasm works great and Farrell and that hair piece are a number on their own.
Where the bosses fall apart is with Aniston. Trust me, I’m in love with Jennifer and have been forever, but, playing a horny boss dedicated to getting into Charlie Days pants? Come on, this very attractive and successful female dentist with her own practice can’t stop obsessing over an assistant three-quarters her size? Now, no offense Charlie but, realistically I never bought that you wouldn’t just go for it!
I’ll give Horrible Bosses 2.5 out of 5 stars because it was funny, decently entertaining, and probably good enough to own on DVD so I have to recommend you all go check it out.
My suggestion, bring lots of friends because it’ll be funnier in a group.
