A “Total Recall” Reboot,” The Wolverine” needs Direction, and “The Three Stooges”, a Mr. E Sneak Peak

The remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi/action flick begins shooting Monday in Toronto with ‘Underworld”s Len Wiseman directing.

Star Trek’s John Cho has joined ‘Total Recall’ as McClane, the smooth-talking salesman trying to get Douglas Quaid, whose being played by Colin Farrell, to buy into virtual vacation memories via a brain implant.

The cast includes Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel as Quaid’s wife and his revolutionary girlfriend. Whose roles were original played by Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin. Bill Nighy, who worked with Wiseman on the ‘Underworld’ films, is in talks, reportedly to play the revolutionary hero, Kuato. Bryan Cranston has been cast as a villain and Ethan Hawke has a small but unknown role.

‘Total Recall’ is set for an August 3, 2012 release.

Well, it looks like 20th Century Fox and their high profile film ‘The Wolverine’ is in desperate search of a new director. This came after Darren Aronofsky declined to work on the film citing family reasons but it’s rumored it due to Fox’s unwillingness to give up much of the creative control.

Now according to Variety, Fox is considering eight very different candidates for the job. In no particular order we’ve got:

Doug Liman who directed Matt Damon in ‘The Bourne Identity’, Mark Romanek who directed ‘Never Let Me Go’, Jose Padilha who directed  ‘Elite Squad’, Antoine Fuqua who directed ‘Training Day’, Justin Lin who kicked butt with ‘Fast Five’, James Mangold who directed Joaquin Phoenix in ‘Walk the Line’, Gavin O’Connor who did ‘Pride and Glory’, and finally Gary Shore whose known as a director of commercials.

On another note, with much of the film slated to be shot in Japan the recent tsunami and nuclear concerns are making it difficult for the production process to even begin the planning stages.

‘The Wolverine’ is tentatively set for release sometime in 2012.

In ‘Three Stooges’ news, after Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro were initially cast in the roles of Larry, Curly and Moe, back in 2009, since then many other names have been rumored to take over the roles. With no news it’s taken until filming officially got under way to discover who will actually be playing these comedic icons.

It looks like Sean Hayes of ‘Will & Grace’ will be playing Larry, with Will Sasso of ‘MADtv’ as Curly and Chris Diamantopoulos of ’24’ as Moe. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if they’re able to do justice to kings of the “Nyuck, Nyuck, Nyuck” (Insert eye gouge here.)

The ‘Three Stooges’ is set to hit the big screens sometime in 2012.
