Battle Los Angeles stars Aaron Eckhart, Ramon Rodriguez, Ne-Yo, Bridget Moynahan, Michael Pena, Michelle Rodriguez, and a host of other actors. As stated in the title of the movie, this sci-fi action thriller takes place in Los Angeles, current time.

The movie opens with the assumption of the US Military preparing for a large amount of meteors coming towards Earth. However, they notice that the closer the objects approach the slower their pace gets. It isn’t until the initial impact that the world sees what had been heading towards our planet all along; an alien invasion with hostile intentions. First to fight, the Marine Corps is called in to combat the extraterrestrial beings. Along the battle against the aliens, the platoon led by 2nd Lt. William Martinez (R. Rodriguez) crosses paths with another platoon of Marines and TSgt. Elena Santos (M. Rodriguez) from the USAF. Joining forces, they set out to fight the aliens in order to save their country and more importantly, the planet.

Some of my favorite aspects of this Battle Los Angeles were the visual and sound effects. There were a lot of explosions which involved seeing and hearing and they all in sync. However, I wasn’t fond of the shaky camera effect similar to other recent “alien invasion” movies. Also, there was something odd about seeing a battle being fought with so much yelling. The soldiers pretty much gave away their every move by announcing it aloud. That didn’t make any sense to me.

Overall, I would say that Battle Los Angeles left me less than impressed and as as the credit scrolled, I couldn’t help but think, “what in the world was that?!”. I would recommend to wait for this movie to air on the Sci-Fi channel.

My verdict: 1.5 stars
