The highest grossing film, rightfully so, is an emotional powerhouse to my generation, the ones who grew up with the first two movies. For that matter, it is an emotional powerhouse to all generations because of the underlying themes, or, for the young ones, it is a fun movie that will make the movie-watching experience better than any movie this year. And to think, this is an animated, G-rated movie.
Toy Story 3 is the emotional (if I can use this adjective multiple times) final chapter of Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Mr. Potatohead (Don Rickles), Jessie the Cowgirl (Joan Cusack), and all of Andy’s other toys. As Andy is about to go to college, and hasn’t played with the toys in many years, he is about to put them in the attic, but accidently misplaces them, and they wind up in a day care. At first, the place seems nice and dandy, but when Lotso (Ned Beatty), a bear who is at an executive position of the day care, starts seeming suspicious, the gang knows that something is aloof.
Best Aspects: The themes, the connection from animation to reality, and the amazing plot twists that lead to an unforgettable, tear-jerking ending.
Bottom Line: A+. I still think that Up is the best Pixar (or general animated) movie ever, but Toy Story 3 is a hair-close second. Perhaps they’re even tied, maybe the first with the third one. The movie is MUCH darker than the first two, but it brings home even more heart than both, making everyone realize that life is too short to miss out on whatever good you can. Because one day, you may be “tossed out,” but you will never be replaced in the heart of those close to you. Possibly the third best movie of the year.
One of the finest trilogy finale’s ever made, forget the fact it’s animated, Toy Story 3 should have won the ‘Best Picture Oscar 2011’.
I wouldn’t go that far, but it won in terms of my memories on how the group excelled through their final chapter.
For me there is no excuse in this day and age for the Academy not to award a film like Toy Story 3 the best picture oscar. Especially with Pixar knocking out classic’s year in year out.
Yeah, I think that the Original Toy Story should have gotten at the very least a nomination, but Black Swan and Inception and The Social Network were just too good. It was definitely better than King’s Speech, though.
To be honest i put Toy Story 3 above all of them! but that’s just my opinion, they are all terrific films anyway so i guess to be fair the Oscar’s this year was represented by a lot of very good films.
I agree that Toy Story 3 was great, so we can compromise there.
