I thought I might add this for giggles and to see how people agree, or disagree as it may turn out.
Coming in at number 5 is Wild Hogs.
I really wanted to like this film, being a fairly big fan of William Macy. But with its air of desperation and poorly acted bad guys, this film was a real let down. Its one redeeming feature is the well placed use of Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi, which saved it from a lower position on my stairway to hell.
Coming in at number 4 is Dnevnoy Dozor, aka Daywatch.
I didn’t go into this film expecting much and thank god for that. Terribly acted and a hard to follow storyline, I found this a chore to watch. I even stuck with it to the very bitter end but still got nothing back. Only watch if you are an extremely hardcore fan of Russian films.
Coming in at number 3 is Jurassic Park 3
It seems incredible that I have two films with an actor I like (William Macy) in my bottoms list, but all the same it still happens. This film may be down here because I absolutely adored the first in the series and even tolerated the second despite its lame ending, but nevertheless, this is a poor excuse for a sequel, even as bad as most sequels are. Unbelievable (odd that, being about dinosaurs) and with only a half arsed performance of Sam Neill.
Coming in at number 2 is a joint effort from Rollerball/Future Sport
A truly dreadul and pointless pair of films that are so similar its difficult to distinguish between the two when recalling parts. With performances that can barely be called acting and a plot line nobody could care about, these films are a waste of disc and budget.
And sitting on the throne on my mound of trash is Fortress.
A low budget film with a set comparible to a theatre production and Christopher Lambert leading the Z list cast. With its expectations of shocking the audience with gritty prison life, it in fact offers little more violence than an episode of Star Trek. The first film I ever watched that I considered a chore to watch. Do not watch.
I totally agree with all but one on this list. I have to say, I just LOVE Timur Bekmambetov, and although some of the subject-matter he conquers is a little corny, his filmwork is just so interesting, it makes up for what the plot might lack, in my opinion. (After all, he is in pre-production on a film called Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but I’m still going to go see it! It will likely be visually stunning, in spite of the already B-movie-sounding plot.) Though, Wild hogs DEFINITELY belongs here. I love William Macy, too, but he’s best paired with David Mamet, in my opinion. And Jurassic Park… they ought to have stopped after the second film. Speilberg makes the same mistakes that George Lucas does: he just doesn’t know when the world has had enough of a phenomenon. Granted, he didn’t direct the last film, but he still produced it. I also think that the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull movie belongs on this list… TERRIBLE!!! :) This was a fun thing to do: love it! :)
ah on the point of the latest Indy film, I have to say it was a good effort. It wasn’t as good as the previous ones but I wouldnt have said it was a bad film. only Cate Blanchett let it down for me
I am half looking forward to Bekmambetov’s newest film now =)
:) I’m honestly glad to see that someone did like the latest Indy film. Perhaps the series can still be restored if people do talk up this movie. I was just majorly disappointed in the casting of Shia LaBeouf. Rider Strong was a much better young Indiana. And although Shia played Indy’s apprentice rather than a young Indy, the character was supposed to have the same feel, I thought. And Shia just doesn’t cut it.
And lol about Bekmambetov. I agree. Even though the title sounds like a terrible B movie, I’ll bet it’s gonna be fun. Like Machete was, with AWESOME imagery. (Though, speaking of B movies, Hobo With a Shotgun is coming next year… Rutger Hauer is playing the hobo. Doesn’t get much better than that! :) )
Sorry for all of the asides. I love film so much, and I have a tendency to babble when it comes to movies! :) And you make a lot of excellent reviews, recommendations, and arguments. So it is fun to continue the discussions with you! :)
Shia LaBeouf just annoys me
the only film I thought he was good in was Disturbia, the only performance that showed any star potential from him
what annoys me about actors like shia, adam sandler, jim carrey and to an extent nicholas cage, is that they always play the same character in every film they make
theres never any variety and thats what brought indy down, like you said, was shia
he was too 2 dimensional
I completely agree. But, even in Disturbia, if someone else had been cast, I think the movie would have been better. I saw Wall Street 2 last week, and in spite of Shia’s presence, I thought it was fantastic. Though, I saw an interview with him talking about working with Michael Douglas, and he said the word “epitome” by shortening the “i” and elongating the “o” sound, and not even pronouncing the “e” at the end. (It is tough to describe this in writing… This website has the audio http://www.buzzfeed.com/amyr11/listen-to-shia-labeouf-pronounce-epitome-1u0v) Which already tells audiences that he is likely fed ALL of his lines. Ah Hollywood, how your standards have fallen…
how he can stand alongside Michael Douglas and not bow or shake with excitement is beyond me
One film he can’t be substituted from is Transformers. He was purposely there for some sort of comic relief against what we really wanted to see: cars turning to giant robots in mid-air!
Lol totally!! Besides, it is Michael Bay, and that is the sort of director Shia ought to be paired with, not the likes of Stone. And, your right about Michael Douglas. He is such an icon, and he’s SO great! I got an email with a poll asking what my favorite Fincher film was. Totally “The Game” because it is the great director with an acting legend!! :) Good ol Douglas!!
