EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.

The loosely used idiom mentioned above does not stop ringing in my mind following the magical story of Bethany Hamilton. A 13 year old girl who has the gift for surfing is the victim of a horrendous shark attack. Bethany who loses her entire left arm fights not to lose her life. Bethany who survives with the thanks of her friends, family and her own sheer will is absolutely an inspiration to us all.

Her story could not have been said in a better way. I am grateful that I watched her story and now I am asking you to give her story a chance and maybe we all can find some inspiration in it for ourselves and not throw away life once we think it is broken.

Every one of us has one priceless thing of our past that we hold on to. Could SOUL SURFER be the one movie that director Sean McNamara will fondly hold onto forever? If he does I wouldn’t find anyone who has watched the movie will disagree. Beautifully crafted around the life of Bethany, McNamara does not lose the essence of the message by overwhelming the viewer with celebration of the success. With borderline morals of family and support the core message is the value of perseverance, love and soul. Being absolutely faithful too its title, McNamara does not let the fans of the sport down. With scintillating shots of great surfs and magnificent aerial shots of the coast Hawaii and Tahiti he inoculates the movie with its surfer’s atmosphere. SOUL SURFER in my own terms is Sean McNamara’s well balanced meal for me. A well balanced meal would carry its fair share of Carbs, Proteins, Fibers, Fats and Sugar. SOUL SURFER carries balanced tones of Teenage mischief, Spiritual interventions, Sports, Grit, Tears and Laughter. It is a fairly good package for a bio-pic.

Starring AnnaSophia Robb from RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, Dennis Quaid, Kevin Sorbo and Academy Award Winner Helen Hunt along with Carrie Underwood are an odd mix of talent. Whilst Carrie Underwood could have been replaced by the next person in a crowded bus, Dennis Quaid and AnnaSophia Robb were the heart-breakers of the production. Bringing ultimate soul (no pun intended) into the performances this duo made me reach for the box tissues one too many times than I am comfortable with being a man! Kevin Sorbo although is floating around most of the time still makes his presence felt as does AA winner Hunt.

A movie of triumph, an inspiration to the masses, an ode to the differently abled citizens of earth, a heartwarming film for the family, SOUL SURFER is not a movie made to forget.
