Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is the director of many films, such as 2006’s Babel, but his true masterpiece was this 2003 blockbuster. Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio del Toro starred in this fantastic character study that rotated around the lives of people who are intertwined in ways no one would ever see.

Sean Penn is a recent heart-transplantee who is in the act of recovery. Benicio del Toro is an ex-con who is trying to work with kids at a rehab facility. Naomi Watts is a woman who is a former addict who is living well with her family. One day, all of their lives are changed tremendously, and they must all suffer through it all, be it the loneliness of being normal, the pain of loss, or the destruction of life after you’ve lost everything.

Best Aspect: Everything in this film is great.

Bottom Line: A+. A great film that was made in the Platinum Year of film, 2003. Probably the third best film of 2003 (and that IS saying a lot).
