From noted writer and Director David Mamet comes one of the most dramatic and amazing films in history. The amazing film captivates with the fantastic mixed martial arts (MMA) action and well-done acting. The film’s elements are well-formed and the script is great. It is simply an amazing film.
Top MMA instructor Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is happy with a wife, though he barely makes ends meet. His wife wishes for him to fight, and so does her Brazilian family, but Terry believes that competition is degrading. A woman side-swipes his car and, with later explanation, shoots out the window to his studio. Then, Terry saves an action film star (Tim Allen (yes, THAT Tim Allen)) from a butt-whoopin’, and in return, the actor befriends him and introduces his wife to Terry’s. Along with that, the actor offers Terry a job on his new film to instruct Jiu-Jitsu. But, in one sudden event, everything in Terry’s life is spun around, and the only way to get out of it may be to fight.
Best Aspects: Writing and acting. People say David Mamet is over-rated. They are wrong. This film proves it. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tim Allen give their best performances ever in this film.
Bottom Line: A+. Great film, a must see for action-drama lovers.
