I’ve been writing reviews on this site since 2009, and my last review marked the 100th film that I’ve reviewed. Reaching this special milestone, I’d like to take the time to review what I’ve done so far and put everything in perspective. The purpose of this post is to summarize my work as a whole, reflect upon the consistency of my reviews, and to build on my momentum for future reviews. Most importantly, it gives you, the reader, an opportunity to provide some feedback and influence how and what I will be reviewing for my next 100 reviews….

Let’s start with an overview:

For those of you who are not familiar with my review system, I rate movies on a score from 1-100 and assign a letter grade that is interpreted as follows;

  • A+ (98-100): See Before You Die
  • A (92-97): A Historical Achievement
  • B+ (88-89)/A- (90-91): Highly Recommended
  • B (82-87): Recommended
  • C+ (78-79)/B- (80-81): Average
  • C (72-77): Watchable
  • D+ (68-69)/C- (70-71): Okay
  • D (62-67): Not Recommended
  • F+ (58-59)/ D- (60-61): Avoid
  • F (0-57): Run Away….Far Away
  • I have used 4 different versions of my review format. The first version of my review format debuted with my first review (Rated: Terminator: Salvation (2009) ) in the summer of 2009 and lasted until my 23rd review (Rated: The Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) ). The colorful second generation of my review format debuted with Rated: Avatar (2009)  and was used until my 33rd review (Rated: Robin Hood (2010) ). The detailed third generation started with Rated: District 9 (2009)  and lasted until review number 60 (Rated: Red (2010) ) when I took a break for a year from writing reviews. I returned in December 2011 with the fourth version of my review format, which debuted with Rated: If… (1968)

    Statistics:

    • The average rating is 80.55 . A normal distribution would have an average of 75. This could mean I am too easy with my ratings. Or, you could also consider the fact that I mostly watch movies I like or I know I like, and therefore movies with lower ratings will always be less frequent. Who likes watching bad movies?
    • The rating with the highest number of movies is 88. There are 9 movies with a rating of 88. 3 of these movies are sequels. A total of 25 out of the 100 movies I reviewed are sequels.
    • I have only reviewed 6 movies from before 1970. I have only reviewed 2 movies from before 1960. I plan on fixing this…
    • 28 of the movies I reviewed were reviewed in the mini review format. 5 films were reviewed in the special “Rated for Redux” format.
    • The review with the most number of views is Rated: The Proposal. The reviews with the most comments are currently Rated: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Rated: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
    • The film that I reviewed with the highest total worldwide box office gross is Avatar at $2.7 billion. The film that I reviewed with the lowest total worldwide boxoffice gross (that is on record) is THX 1138 at $2.4 million.
    • The film that I reviewed with the highest number of Oscar Nominations is Ben-Hur with 12. Ben-Hur is also the film with the most Oscar wins, winning 11.
