Review – Brave, passionate film stood up with its controversial story (based on a short story by Annie Proulx) and became an instant classic (whether you like it or not, it is undeniably ultra famous). Heath Ledger gives a powerhouse performance (one of the best, if not the best, of his career) and the rest of the cast matches him. Other benefits include the first-rate, dedicated direction by Ang Lee, the beautiful music score, and the admirable cinematography. The film is sometimes slowish and traditional in its storytelling, but it is focused and often very powerful. Rare and highly memorable.
