So the nominees are in!  Some are extremely well deserved and some…  well – not so much :(  I have strategically placed my thoughts somewhere with in the catagory (usually after… so maybe not so strategic!).

I am so looking forward to Ricky Gervais hosting this event as it might give it the life the show so desperatly needs!

The event will be broadcast on Sunday January 17th.

What are your thoughts on the nominations?

 Motion Pictures

Best Picture/Drama: ‘Avatar’ (hummm, is this being nominated due to the sheer cost of the production?  I’m still not sold on this one), ‘The Hurt Locker’, ‘Inglorious Bastards’, ‘Precious’, ‘Up In The Air’

Best Picture/Musical or Comedy:500 Days of Summer’, ‘The Hangover’ (I thought was freakin’ hilarious, but a best comedy nomination?), ‘It’s Complicated’, ‘Julie & Julia’, ‘Nine’ – where is ‘Men Who Stare at Goats’, I totally thought that should have gotten a nod over ‘It’s Complicated’!

Actor/Drama: Jeff Bridges (‘Crazy Heart’), George Clooney (‘Up in the Air’), Colin Firth (‘A Single Man’), Morgan Freeman (‘Invictus’), Tobey Maguire (‘Brothers’) – It think this one will be a toss up between Jeff and Morgan

Actress/Drama: Emily Blunt (‘The Young Victorian’), Sandra Bullock (‘The Blind Side’), Helen Mirren (‘The Last Station’), Carey Mulligan (‘An Education’), Gabourey Sidibe (‘Precious’) – Gabourey Sidibe soooo has this one in the bag!

Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow (‘The Hurt Locker’), James Cameron (‘Avatar’), Clint Eastwood (‘Invictus’), Jason Reitman (‘Up In the Air’), Quentin Tarantino (‘Inglorious Basterds;) – I think Kathryn Bigelow will take this one over Jason Reitman and Clint Eastwood.  She’s just such a great director, remember ‘Near Dark’?  ‘Inglorious’ was good, but not Tarantino’s best work by far.

Actor/Musical or Comedy: Matt Damon (‘The Informant!’), Daniel Day-Lewis (‘Nine’), Robert Downey Jr (‘Sherlock Holmes’), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (‘500 Days of Summer’), Michael Stuhlbarg (‘A Serious Man’) – was there a shortage in comedies this year?  Joseph Gordon-Levitt? 500 Days of Summer?  Most I spoke with were disapointed so am a little shocked… I will also be shocked if Daniel doesn’t take this one.

Actress/Musical or Comedy: Sandra Bullock (‘The Proposal’), Marion Cotillard (‘Nine’), Julia Roberts (‘Duplicity’ WTH?, did anyone even watch this?), Meryl Streep (‘It’s Complicated’ AND ‘Julie & Julia’ – who’s shocked at the double nod?  Anyone?  Nope, me neither -the woman is awesome!! However, I think good ‘ol Sandy has this one, little miss comeback queen!).

Supporting Actor: Matt Damon (‘Invictus’), Woody Harrelson (‘The Messenger’), Christopher Plummer (‘The Last Station’), Stanley Tucci (‘The Lovely Bones’), Christoph Waltz (‘Inglorious Basterds’) – This is a tough one!  Would be nice to see Chris Plummer win as it may be one of his last chances, however Stanley Tucci is always fabulous!  I think Chris Waltz has this one though…).

Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz (‘Nine’), Vera Farmiga (‘Up In The Air’), Anna Kendrick (‘Up In The Air’ – Guess I’m going to see that one on Xmas Day), Mo’Nique (‘Precious’), Julianne Moore, (‘A Single Man’) – Mo’Nique, Fo’Sho’!

Television

Series/Drama: Big Love, Dexter, House, Mad Men, True Blood – I’m personally hoping for ‘True Blood’ or ‘Dexter’, however, I have a feeling ‘House’ will steal again!

Actor/Drama: Simon Baker (‘The Mentalist’), Michael C Hall (‘Dexter’), Jon Hamm (‘Mad Men’), Hugh Laurie (‘House’), Bill Paxton (‘Big Love’) – I can’t get into ‘Big Love’, I dislike Paxton that much!  I hope it goes to Michael C as ‘Dexter’ is a great show, however Mr. Laurie, if you could please come up and accept your Globe!

Actress/Drama: Glenn Close (‘Damages’), January Jones (‘Mad Men’, Huh?), Julianna Margulies (‘The Good Wife’), Anna Paquin (‘True Blood’), Kyra Sedgwick (‘The Closer’) – Julianna’s new show ‘the Good Wife’ is actually good and I still haven’t had the chance to catch up on ‘Damages’, so this one is anyone’s guess!

Series/Musical or Comedy: 30 Rock, Entourage (WTH! It’s time for this show to die!!), Glee, Modern Family, the Office – One Word, GLEE!  Amazing. Freakin’. Show!

Actor/Musical or Comedy: Alec Baldwin (’30 Rock’), Steve Carell (‘The Office’), David Duchovny (‘Californication’), Thomas Jane (‘Hung’), Matthew Morrison (‘Glee’) – I soooooo want David to win!  Has anyone being keeping with ‘Californication’?  It’s #*@(@*% AWESOME!  David’s comedic talent was so wasted on ‘XFiles’!

Actress/Musical or Comedy: Toni Collette (‘United States of Tara’), Courteney Cox (‘Cougar Town’), Edie Falco (‘Nurse Jackie’), Tina Fey (’30 Rock’), Lea Michele (‘Glee’) – I’ve been so wanting to see ‘United States of Tara’ (as I do not have, GULP, proper cable), i saw the first two episodes and thought it was great!  So am really hoping Toni takes it!  If Tina wins again, I. Will. Cry!

Miniseries or Movie: Georgia O’Keeffe, Grey  Gardens, Into The Storm, Little Dorrit, Taking Chance – I got nothin’ here…

Actress/Miniseries or Movie: Joan Allen (‘Georgia O’Keeffe’), Drew Barrymore (‘Grey Gardens’), Jessica Lange (‘Grey Gardends’), Anna Paquin (‘The Courageous Heart of Irene Sendler’), Sigourney Weaver (‘Prayers for Bobby’) – The only one I’ve even heard of ‘Grey Gardens’

Actor/Miniseries or Movie: Kevin Bacon (‘Taking Chance’), Kenneth Branagh (‘Wallander: One Step Behind’), Chiwetel Ejiofor (‘Endgame’), Brendan Gleeson (‘Into The Storm’), Jeremy Irons (‘Georgia O’Keefe) – Chiwetel Ejifor, mainly becasue I just like typing his name

Supporting Actress/Series, Miniseries or Movie: Jane Adams (‘Hung’), Rose Byrne (‘Damages’), Jane Lynch (‘Glee’), Janet McTeer (‘Into the Storm’), Chloe Sevigny (‘Big Love’) – It  is slightly unfair lumping all these catagories together as each type of performance is different as well as the style!  I still hope beyond hope Jane Lynch takes it… She is hilarious!

Supporting Actor/Series, Miniseries or Movie: Michael Emerson (‘Lost’), Neil Patrick Harris (‘How I Met Your Mother’), William Hurt (‘Damages’), John Lithgow (‘Dexter’), Jeremy Piven (‘Entourage’) – again, such a vast difference in performances however if someone is most deserving, it’s John Lithgow for ‘Dexter’!
