Rule #1 Cardio – Because you need to outrun them
Rule #2 Double Tap – Make sure the undead things are, well… dead!
Rule #3 Always check the bathroom, you don’t want to be caught with your pants down &
Rule #4 Fasten your seatbelt, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Yes it will be! From the moment the movie’s opening credits begin you feel as though you’ve entered a carnival ride at Pacific Playland, which happens to be a ‘Zombie Free Zone’ rumor has it.
From the offset we meet Columbus – narrator, survivor. His rules have kept him from being food and he follows each one to the letter. Jesse Eisenberg plays the uncomfortable and witty character perfectly – well, as much as you can while wielding a shotgun that is.
He soon crosses paths with ‘Tallahassee’, where taking zombie names and kicking zombie butt has become his specialty. A role we have become accustomed to seeing Woody Harrelson play and he does play it with ease!
We eventually meet Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) as scheming sisters, who trust no one except each other. The four survivors decide to band together as they make their journey to Pacific Playland outside of LA, which the girls believe is their only chance at salvation.
I know you’re thinking ‘great, exactly what we need, another zombie movie’! However, with laugh out loud one liners, reiterations of the rules, tons of action, exploding zombie heads and an awesome soundtrack – not to mention a hilarious cameo from Bill Murray (can you say Ghostbuster reenactments!), this movie is enjoyable and fun!
Alas, even zombie movies have their moral lessons; families are not always the ones you are born with and that without others, you might as well be a zombie!
