Rampage is film directed by Brad Peyton, stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Naomi Harris, Jeffery Dean Morgan & Malin Akerman and is based on the video game series of the same name. When a mysterious pathogen infects an albino gorilla at the San Diego Wildlife preserve, former US Special Forces officer and primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson) is called to check on his animal friend & with the help a genetic engineer (Harris) they begin their investigation but the plot thickens when a government agent (Morgan) also arrives only to inform them that the gorilla isn’t the only infected animal. A killer crocodile, a viscous wolf & now a raging gorilla are all heading towards Chicago and it’s up to the 3 characters to stop them before they wreck the city. This film was quite entertaining for being an over the top cheesy action film. The performances from Johnson & Morgan are what carry the movie and they show the great chemistry among each other. Aside from the great performances and the solid action sequences, this movie falls apart with sloppy writing and cliche storytelling. The movie is similar to a Michael Bay movie or any other monster or disaster movie but doesn’t rely on big CGI scenes or over the top acting.  The difference is the charisma of Johnson and as mentioned earlier great performances. The dialogue reminded me of the one liners from great action films of the 80s & 90s. Overall, this film was entertaining but like a slew of other movies based video games, this one misses the mark by failing to tell a cohesive story in its entirety.
