“The Reaping” stars Hilary Swank, David Morrissey, Idris Elba, and AnnaSophia Robb. It’s directed by Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2, The Ghost and the Darkness) and written by Carrey and Chad Hayes (House of Wax).

A paranormal debunker by the name of Katherine Winter claims that everything has a logical explanation, that is until she is invited to the small town of Haven, Louisiana. In this town the rivers have turned to blood after the death of a young boy. This is just one of the ten biblical plagues that are about to occur during her time spent in the town wreaking with havoc, thanks to a young twelve year old girl who has brought this deadly plague upon the town.

The only acting that was somewhat noteworthy was done by AnnaSophia Robb, who was sort of creepy, but at the same time cute. Hillary Swank, whose talent has went south after making the “Black Dahlia”, does nothing close to impressive. The scares are built in and predictable, and the whole concept is plain mirthful. The film suffers from a horribly lackluster script that is ridiculous and far from frightening. Thanks to the Hayes brothers, who really haven’t delivered anything that has been worthwhile, this is one of the years worst excuses for a horror movie.

I was really excited to see this because of the enormously engaging trailer that was put together. Just proof that the people who made the trailer should have made the movie. This is one of the few horror movies that actually had me in stitches. Unfortunately these were unintentional laughs. Director Stephen Hopkins directs his first truly bad film with absolutely no ambition what so ever. “The Reaping” has an Incoherent story and low-key special effects. The fact that I was laughing was the only thing that really kept me on my toes.

I never laughed so hard at a film that wasn’t suppose to be funny. The acting wasn’t too rousing, which is a nose dive for two time academy award winner Hillary Swank. The story was mostly confusing. What I got out of the film is that the little girl (AnnaSophia Robb) is an angel sent from God to destroy all the second born children. Katherine Winter (Hillary Swank) gets pregnant by one of the second born children and is now carrying Satan’s son. Is this really what the film was trying to get through to me? If so, I wasn’t overwhelmed.

I thought that in the beginning this movie had some promise, then for some reason it didn’t deliver. I really disliked this movie. Plus the ending was stupid. I didn’t laugh as much as you did though.
