From the best selling author of The Notebook, comes Nights in Rodanthe. It’s not often i watch a wee romantic film, but on occasions I whip out a bottle of wine and the popcorn and stick one on. I seen the Notebook and it was an amazing tearjerker of a movie and i had the kleenex on stand by, so when George C. Wolfe brought out Rodanthe i thought i’d give it a go.

Adrienne (Diane Lane), recently separated from her husband as a result of an affair, now lives with her son and daughter. Best friend Jean, asks Adrienne to come down to Rodanthe to look after her bed and breakfast on the sun swept beach, while she goes on vacation. Accepting her offer, the kids stay with father for the weekend. Adrienne arrives in Rodanthe and Jean heads away leaving Adrienne expecting her one and only guest, Dr Paul Flanner (Richard Gere), Staying in Rodanthe because in surgery attempting an operation, something terrible goes wrong and a woman dies. Her husband sent Paul a letter telling him to come down and explain what happened. Adrienne and Paul away from their everyday lives and routines fall for each other, putting butterflies in their stomach, making them feel young and free again.

 OK, Nights of Rodanthe is no Notebook that’s for sure. From the intro to just over half way, it was very slow and sluggish, but once Rodanthe gets into full swing, thats when the magic happens and the tears start flowing. I thought Gere and Lane connect and react very well with each other. This is definitely a chick flick and that’s all it is, nothing special.
