Director: Quentin Tarintino

Starring: Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger

Overview: Well known for his violence in his films, Tarintino has invited us to watch Inglourious Basterds. A World War II fictional movie starring Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz as two of the many main characters. Waltz a less well known Austrian actor, won the best actor award for his performance as Austro-German SD officer Standartenfuhrer Hans Landa at the Cannes film festival, a very well deserved honor. Tarintino has brought us some very well achieved cult films of our time such as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, and Inglourious Basterds might be added to the list.

The Story: In 1941 during WW II, In German-occupied France, Colonel Has Landa (Christoph Waltz), nicknamed ‘The Jew Hunter’ has the job of finding all the remaining Jews in France and execute them. In an investigation one Jew family is murder and one of the teenage girls, Shasanna escapes in a plea for her life. American 1st Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles A group of 8 Jewish American soldiers, known as the Basterds to fight the Nazi’s and kill as many German soldiers as possible in a no taking prisoners policy. A few years later Shasanna, now with a new identity calling herself Emmanuelle owns a cinema in Paris. She meets German sniper Frederick Zoller, not knowing that she is a Jew. Zoller is Known for his heroics and exploits in the war, so a German film director makes a film about him and this Nazi event will be held as Shasanna’s theatre. With all Nazi ranking officers present including Hitler, she plans to burn down the theatre. In a separate plan, the Basterds also plan to ambush the event. As paths cross and events change, this dark war comedy has it all for an epic adventure.

The Verdict: Tarintino once again proves himself as a heavy weight in the world of Hollywood with this fantastic bloody ingenious and outstanding war epic. Brad Pitt raises the bar for Inglourious Basterds in his fabulous performance. As Lieutenant Aldo he incorporates comedy with leadership. Waltz also provides the performance of a lifetime and will always be known for his role in Inglourious. As for the plot, according to Tarintino, it was 10 years in the making to make it absolutely perfect, and that he nearly achieves. A very intriguing and edge of your seat thiller. This is not for the feint hearted.

I am sorry to say I disagree as to the greatness of this film, while Tarantino does have a special place in my mind as far as cinema goes, this movie was way too long. It had some parts in it that I enjoyed but the pace of the movie is what killed it for me. I would say the only thing I enjoyed was Brad Pitts commentary because it made me laugh but other than that I give this film a 2 out 5 stars. Just my opinion
