Overview: Eastwood has been in the acting business for over 50 years now and he has gave us many icons. Icons that i wasn’t even born to see, but I still know of, such as Dirty Harry. More recently i have seen many of his films over the years such as Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby, both very admirable pieces of work. At 79 years of age Eastwood is still producing fantastic pictures for the world to see. Gran Torino, the latest Eastwood flick is much the same standard of work.

The Story: Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood), a war vetern who lives in Highland Park, Michigan, has recently lost his wife. Now living alone with his dog, is a lonely man and angry at the world and does not engage with his two sons. His neighbours are now mostly Asians, formerly more populated by white families. Thao (Bee Vang), Walts next door neighbour, is a social recluse teenager who is walked over by his family having no father figure. Spider, the leader of a gang is Thao’s big cousin and in an attempt to man Thao up, they force him to join the gang. For his intiation he has to steel Walts Ford Gran Torino. Caught in the act, Thao’s mother marches him up to Walts door to do chores for him. In doing this he bonds with Thao and eventually becomes his friend.

The Verdict: Gran Torino, Eastwoods so called last film in front of the camera is a bold, muscle of a film that show brawn and courage. Eastwood owns the part as the isolated war vetern and plays it too a tee. Introducing Bee Vang to the big screen was a real treat to watch. Gran Torino is a powerful and emotional drama, yet in parts it can be extremly funny. Eastwood a incredibly talented director, and shows us that he’s not going anywhere yet.
