Loading ...Fantastic 4 was one of the worst movies I have ever seen, however, I gave the sequel a chance. The following is what Fantastic 4: Rise of the Sliver Surfer did with that chance.
Directed once again by Tim Story, there seemed to be more story than the previous one with Mark Frost sharing writer credit with Don Payne this time. The cast is all of the same with: Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon, and Doug Jones as the Silver Surfer, but with Lawrence Fishburne’s voice. Everyone comes together in a tale about our planet being destroyed via a mysterious entity dubbed the Silver Surfer, who is causing climate changes and damage in a record amount of time. Oh heavens, will the Fantastic 4 stop him?!
Acting is all on-par for the piece, however Jessica Alba with the blonde hair is a bit odd sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very sexy odd, but the makeup department caked on a little bit of overtime this go around for sure.
The rating this time is a family friendly PG and in the beginning it shows. I was able to think to myself, okay this is meant for kids and I will treat it as such a film. Maybe it was the inner child or something, but I tell you what folks: I dug Rise of the Silver Surfer, not as deep as just mentioned character’s craters in the Earth within the film, but enough.
This time around there is at least some story to the plot and a reasoning behind all of the action. The first film lacked a good reason for Dr. Doom to be so evil really and it was full of logical errors; no substance. Rise of the Silver Surfer doesn’t take itself too seriously this time and the dialog and scenarios are a bit snappier with the flow of things; lots of lighthearted comedic moments. This is good because it is hard to take, for example, the stretchy man’s super powers seriously sometimes. When he uses them to contort and twist during a dance sequence it is pure cheesy summer blockbuster fun. This film is a summer blockbuster, but lacking as many glaring issues as many; ahem, take notes for Transformers 2.
The CGI and special effects seal the deal and look great, no crappy Ghostrider with a flaming skull here. All of the tones used and atmosphere set fit nicely and the team all the way around made this a 200% improvement over the previous in the series. Near the end there is some stuff that looks almost as “Power Ranger” like as those Spiderman flicks, but overall my eyes stayed on the screen and soaked in pure, mindless entertainment; funny since it is a very science based plot.
Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer may have been so good to me because the previous one was so bad, but regardless, at least I got that previous taste out of my mind and the series has been fantastically redeemed. Worth a rental for sure and the loose ends at the end are forgivable since I assume if they make more they’ll stay this entertaining.

I hated this movie. I found nothing enjoyable about it. The action scene were short and mediocre. The special effect was an improvement upon the first film but not by much. ANYthing resembling character developement is completely deminished with their constant obsesseion with the powers they have. Doom is literally just irritating. The only redeemable thing abou this movie is the Silver Surfer. He deserves his own film. But good review. :-p

In the first the 4 were made into heroes after saving people from a disaster that they were actually responsible for…? made no sense…in the sequel they poke fun at this aspect of their job and the damage caused…also in the first one why the heck was Doom going all mad for power and wanting to destroy things and yadda yadda? what was his goal? Other than that both films have about the same amount of factual inconsistencies…Things weight doesn’t apply to certain things or in part two when she peeks through a wall the Surfer is lying down but then it cuts into the room and he is positioned up…whereas on 1 the machine to turn thing back to normal needed Dooms power to work and then later turning back into thing it did not…etc etc
