I love music; it is the universal language, and is the thing that everyone should know of and love. I believe that to have a good movie, you must have good music in the background. Some examples: Boondock Saints, Revolutionary Road, The Departed, Sunshine, 28 Days Later… the list goes on. So here are the top five scores/soundtracks of 2009.
1. Moon - Clint Mansell: With his very well crafted tones, Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream) makes music for the soul in this masterful work.
2. Watchmen - Tyler Bates: Though the movie wasn’t that good, the
soundtrack succeeded epically, especially since it is coming from Tyler Bates (300)
3. AVATAR - James Horner: James Horner (Titanic) makes a great addition to his repertoire with this soundtrack, which was in the background of the best movie of the year.
4. Inglourious Basterds - Various Artists:With Ennio Morricone’s music being implemented into this killer movie from Quentin Tarantino, the movie just got a little bit better with every second.
5. Sherlock Holmes - Hans Zimmer: Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean series) made a very interesting musical approach to this Guy Ritchie blockbuster, making the mood of the film reflect in a very natural and beautiful way.
Hopefully, the Academy will feel this way too come award season.
