What do you get when you combine stolen plutonium, a skateboarding kid named Marty, a wild haired Doc, a DeLorean car? That’s right the classic 1985 movies called Back To The Future, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and  Crispin Glover.

Marty (Michael J Fox) is pretty much you’re typical skateboarding, guitar playing, girlfriend having, teenage kid from the 80’s. After a day of school and dinner with his family. Marty heads off to help his friend Dr. Emmit Brown (Christopher Lloyd). who is a little out there, ‘Doc’, to Marty’s surprise has invented a time machine out of a DeLorean sports car. Which by the way is powered by plutonium, Doc got the plutonium from Libyan Nationalist who wanted Doc to build them a bomb, he doesn’t. After a successful test run with Doc’s dog, he is all set to travel to the future. When all of a sudden the libyans appear to get revenge for the fake bomb he delivered to them, tragically Doc gets shot. Marty on the other hand escapes by jumping into the delorean where he accidentally travels back in time to the year 1955. When he gets there he meets his father George McFly ( Crispin Glover). Marty thinks he saves his father’s life when he pushes him out of the way of a car, but in-fact he just jeopardized his own existence. After Marty gets hit by the car, instead of his father, he meets Lorraine Bains (Lea Thompson) his future mother. After realizing he is the cause of his parents not meeting and not falling in love. Marty and Doc plan out a way to get the future parents together, and fall in love. All the while trying to get Marty back to the 1985 present.

This film is a classic. The writers ( Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale) did a superb job with layering the story and breathing life into the characters, the comedy, and action go hand and hand. As well as the actors. The special effects are great, ( for the 80’s) you have to remember the effects where top notch for the times. But today you can see right where the green screen starts and the real set begins, but its not a huge disappointment in special effects it still is very belivable. The story still draws you in with the crazy Doc Brown and the charismatic Marty. Now a days you can see through all the plot ‘hints’ the writers lay out in the beginning of the story. (the movie is 24 years old) But to me it is still a strong movie and a great starting point for the now epic trilogy. 

I highly recomend adding the 2 disk special edition DVD to you’re collection. The special features alone is worth the 15.00 or less price tag. The special features include: A nine part making of documentary, A rare t.v special called back to the future night ( it’s a behind the scenes look at BTTF and BTTF part 2), deleted scenes, outtakes, enhanced conversation with Michael J Fox (as the movie is playing). and a whole lot more. So go out pick up this 2 disk DVD set and get ready for a laugh out loud, comedy adventure that will have you saying “GREAT SCOTT!! what a good movie.”
