How happy is the blameless vestals lot!

The world forgetting by the world forgot

Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind

Each prayer accepted and each wish resigned!

Alexander pope speaks of the true happiness of a clean mind, even though they are trying to forget a world that already has forgotten them, their voices will be heard and those with clean souls will find its happiness.

In relating the message of Alexander Pope and the values of its principles into a modern movie, Charlie Kaufmann, Michel Gondry and Pierre Bismuth are doing a magnificent job. To bring it to life with sheer precision and to carry the same morals through to the audience is a challenge that is quite well tackled by director Michel Gondry. Seated in the audience and understanding the concept of ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND took me quite some time. I kept flicking the rewind switch and re watching certain scenes over and over again to fathom what exactly was going on. This unorthodox directorial strategy to a very unorthodox screenplay makes it quite a challenge to understand. Once you are onboard with Michel Gondry, then it’s just an emotional wave through Joel’s (Jim Carrey) and Clementine’s (Kate Winslet) story. Two individuals who are isolated in society with very limited social relationships run into each other. In another paradigm it’s two people who are trying to exist in a world that has forgotten those finds each other and falls in love. Joel and Clementine are only human and with time within their own world the walls begin to fall apart and they part their own ways. We have all experienced this, when someone we love dearly, leaves our lives all we do is to try and forget them entirely, just as so Clementine wishes to forget Joel and has her memory wiped away. However even in a world that has been artificially made forgotten the pure in spirit will find its soul mate.

Jim Carrey and he alone could have pulled of this movie I believe. I am yet to see and be convinced of an actor who has many expressions as Jim Carrey does. His adaptive talent to characters within a character is the most distinctive tool that allows ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND for a smooth sail. Kate Winslet delivered what was expected, not to be sexist but nothing in her performance stood out as exceptional whereas for Jim Carrey he actually pulled it off playing an 8 year old.

Soundtrack – The Only flaw that limited the emotions running wild was the lack of a soundtrack. CITY OF ANGELS, A WALK TO REMEMBER has the viewer’s balling out purely since its soundtracks are superior to ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. How much does that affect overall movie? Is that why this movie has been forgotten?
