Sunshine, a Mr. E Movie Review

Five years ago wasn’t really that long ago but recently when I discovered Sunshine I felt I had unearthed a science fiction classic. At first it feels like a rebooting of 1968’s 2001: A Space Odyssey but after a few minutes and some awesome effects it becomes something that easily stands on its own.

Indulge me as I rundown this ridiculously star studded cast that includes Cillian Murphy aka. The Dark Knight’s Scarecrow, Captain America himself Chris Evans, Crouching Tiger’s Michelle Yeoh, X-Men First Class’ Rose Byrne, Troy Garity aka. the cocky white guy from Barber Shop, The Last Samurai’s Hiroyuki Sanada, Cliff Curtis aka. Blow’s Pablo Escobar, and The Green Lantern’s Mark Strong.

Sunshine’s storyline is set in the future at a time when the Sun has begun to die, and the Earth is freezing over as a result. A team astronauts has been sent with a giant nuclear devise to revive the Sun – but the mission fails. Seven years later, our all-star team of astronauts are sent to finish the mission as Earth’s last hope.

Director Danny Boyle has really given us something spectacular and I’m not talking about 127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire, or 28 Days Later. Instead he has brought all of those dramatic elements and sprinkled a little horror suspense all while injecting some serious special effects to create Sunshine. Add in the fact that his cast delivers on every note and deserved much more recognition than they got and I repeat this one feels like a classic.

Entertaining, exciting, and everything I was looking for in a sci-fi flick!

I’m giving Sunshine a 4 out of 5 stars and an enthusiastic recommend to all and you can easily find this one on Netflix.

“…and remember 3-parts popcorn to 2-parts chocolate washed down with 1-part cold beverage. Mmm. See you at the movies!” – Mr. E
