Directed by Sam Raimi
2007
Starring: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco
I hated this movie so much that I didn't even put the title of this movie, which was the most expensive movie to make until Avatar, mind you. Sam Raimi (Evil Dead series) had my respect until he ruined Spiderman by making the first one, then made it a bit better with the second one, then totally tossed its salad with this, the third entry.
Useful Tips:
1. FIRE YOUR CASTING DIRECTOR! Tobey Maguire is too much of a wimp. Its called a "Jake Gyllenhaal," and they aren't hard to get. Just call up, and offer the same amount for it.
The above author's byline must be attached to the work if being distributed.

ha ha.
I thought Tobey Maguire did a good job. Gave kids that ‘your-fav-superhero-is-dweeb-like-you’ feeling. And he bulked up pretty good for the part too (being vegan and all).
But he is a great actor, you should see him in ‘Brothers’. He is terrifyingly good, literally (he does this whole psychotic breakdown).

I know. I saw it and thought it was great, but not the best performance, and not the best movie of the year (if the ending was better, it’d be at least 10). And also, Tobey just isn’t superhero material. Gyllenhaal would have REALLY rejuvenated the series, because he could probably play a geek, too.

I totally admit that spidey 3 was a let down, however you can’t actually be serious that it is the worst superhero ever. That would have to be Superman 3 or Batman & Robin or Batman Forever or Superman Returns or The Spirit or The Shadow and the list goes on and on.
January 10th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
Yes, all of those movies besides Superman Returns (Kevin Spacey is the reason) and Batman Forever (I actually liked Val Kilmer in this one)
January 10th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
were totally bad, but the point being is that Spidey 3 was the fingernail to the middle finger that was the Raimified new look at it.

This review reads more like a Youtube comment or some kind of flame thing. All I know from it is that you don’t like Sam Raimi for some reason and you don’t like Tobey Maguire because he’s a wimp. However, I don’t see any real reasons to avoid the film. Not putting the title of the film in the title to express how bad it is doesn’t make any sense. This barely warrants being called a review so much as it is more of an emotional outburst than anything.
January 11th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
yes, and though it is an outburst rather than an actual review, I just voiced my opinion simply. I need not explain certain things. I just think that the pair destroyed the hope for a great franchise.

considering the bad adaptations we’ve seen, I think Spiderman 1 & 2 were pretty good.
If wanna talk bad, think Daredevil, Punisher (any version of it) or catwoman which was atrocious.
January 16th, 2010 at 8:49 am
Dude, Punisher was awesome (the Thomas Jane version. The sequel sucked). Catwoman and Daredevil sucked something fierce, and Spiderman 2 was okay, whereas 1 sucked, in my opinion. Thanks for the comment.

Just to chime in on this discussion, the Evil Dead movies were amazing and Sam Raimi has talent, however Venom was extremely inaccurate and almost lost in the jumble of everything that was going on in this movie. There was too much happening and when the dancing, makeup ridden Tobey comes dancing down the street I almost left the theatre. Also don’t get me started on Drag Me To Hell.
January 26th, 2010 at 11:30 am
yes, Raimi’s early career in movies was uncanny yet fantastic, but he honestly destroyed the spiderman franchise. Drag me to Hell sucked, too. Come on SAM!

I know it’s knida late to chime in, but here I go: Spider-Man was very good, Spider-Man 2 was very, very good. Well made, a little darker than most superhero movies which made it even better. Spider-Man 3 was not as good. It could of been much better, yes. I agree, combining all of those supervillians into one film and yet, somehow, still finding enough money and useless time to incorporate a dance number was completely stupid and I don’t know what the hell anyone was thinking. No one saw fit to scream NO!!!!!!! at the top of their lungs when this was even being written into the script but let alone allowed to actually be filmed, edited, and included in the final production. Tobey is a great Peter Parker, I don’t think anyone would have done better, not even Gyllenhal. He is the Prince of Persia, however. Venom needs his own movie, and it should be even darker than part 2. The darkest, being that he is Spidey’s arch-nemesis and most feard baddie of all time. Unfortunately, doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Just thought I’d share my piece of mind.

Worst superhero flicks of all time to name a few: I agree with Daredevil, Elektra(didn’t even have to see that one to know it sucked), very first Punisher with Dolph Lungdren, Ghost Rider, third Punisher, and Superman Returns. Fantastic Four wasn’t all the great either. Best superhero movie ever: The Dark Knight

I’d say Batman Begins, but we can settle on a Nolan Brothers production. And also, Jacob Aaron Estes is supposed to be writing the script for it, and in 2012, it and the remake of Spider-Man (without Raimi) will appear.

Whattt! Omg. I loved Spiderman! Why did you hate it so much?
I hated the second and third ones.
June 2nd, 2010 at 10:43 pm
That’s what I’m saying. The franchise itself sucked, since Sam Raimi cluster****** the franchise, and the only reason the first one was really watchable was because of Willem Dafoe. I just don’t think that Tobey Maguire is… Superhero-esque. He is better at acting like a crazy person, which he showed in the film Brothers. Though I respect the films, I hated them, nonetheless…. Well, the second one was okay. It is mainly the third one, which had a budget of $258 million, sucked royally.

I know everyone’s complaint with this movie is o its a cluster fuck and I was one of those who said that as well but to be honest it needed to be a cluster fuck simply because of Venom. In order for the symbiote to drive Peter Parker’s anger and aggression to the next level he would need to be enraged. He didn’t have this until Sandman was thrown into the mix for killing Uncle Ben thus giving the symbiote the drive to embrace on Peter Parker and for him to accept it at a certain point. With that note maybe the movie could of been better maybe even the best one if Venom was not in it, a lot of fans are probably mad at that comment but they could of made a decent movie with just sandman and new goblin. Without the symbiote there wouldn’t of been so many of the flaws that everyone brings up such as the dance scenes & Peter Parker’s emo style. I think the director and everyone working on this film did the best they could with introducing a popular character in Venom and how the symbiote affects Peter Parker. One of the many problems with bringing such popular characters in the mix is that the fans are expecting a spectacular but in comic book movies that just doesn’t or rarely happens, so i appreciate seeing Venom brought to the screen granted not the way I had planned but hey whatever. Being one of the many that disliked this film I find myself watching it a lot more and coming to appreciate or see where they are coming from with some of the flaws of this film.

I somewhat agree, but the point is also that they chose Topher Grace to be Venom. Name one bad-ass thing Topher Grace EVER did.
June 18th, 2010 at 5:04 pm
True his old work is nothing to me but he is the star in the new Predator movie. Wrong casting on their part but they probably just wanted to take chances with fresh actors such as they did in The Karate Kid with Jaden Smith that can be my only guess sometimes it usually works and it don’t especially with him playing venom. To me the character was so bad for the movie though i don’t think I would of liked him if any other actor would of played him either for that Topher Grace really didn’t have much dialogue or screen time once he became Venom so I really didn’t pay any attention to the actor but more on the character. I still see your points though.
June 18th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
well, yes, but Mickey Rourke had maybe two combined minutes of face time, but he still did good cuz it is mickey frickin rourke. but the point in this is that the film was really just a way too drawn out and destructive version of the comic with bad acting, casting, writing and directing, though I liked Darkman and the Evil Dead trilogy.
June 18th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
And also, I think that the movie would have been better if someone like Christopher Nolan had directed that AND the Batman Franchise because of what he’s done for Batman.

This is now the most commented post ever on this site.
June 19th, 2010 at 3:55 pm
its the most commented post because of the subject and because of the controversy towards this being one of the worst comic book movies either you oppose the opinion or your for it but this is probably the best debate to have on this site.
June 19th, 2010 at 8:19 pm
i think it is funny to see how struck the people get when I say I didn’t like the Spider-Man franchise, as if I called their God a lie. It is just the opinion that I wanted to express, and though the controversy is at a steady rate, at least a few people must agree: It sucked pretty frickin bad.

at first i thought that most super hero movies were good but after reading alot of these comments i guess i just never thought compare all the great movies compared to all the terrible ones. there is a lot of terrible super hero movies. I am just saying for the record though Entrouge had the best idea James Cammeron + Aquaman would make an unreal movie. you just need a strong enough actor to do so. i am very excited to see ryan reynolds as green latern
September 12th, 2010 at 6:41 pm
Yes, Green Lantern looks to deliver. I wish that Thor looked better, it being directed by Kenneth “Holy Shit” Branagh, but it will probably suck. Many of the upcoming superhero movies will. I’m just looking forward to two of them: 1. Batman 3 (The Caped Crusader (WT)) 2. Superman: Man of Steel.
September 13th, 2010 at 6:58 pm
Really, JC? I have pretty high hopes for Thor. As you said, it is under Branagh’s direction, and that man certainly knows what he is doing, both in front and behind the camera. I’ve seen stills from the movie, and they look fantastic and incredible, like a cross between The Fountain and 300. I think it’ll be good!!
March 30th, 2011 at 6:41 pm
I couldn’t disagree more, J.C. I do agree Spider-man 3 was the worst of the trilogy, but as a whole, I thought it was a good movie, and I thought the trilogy was a great franchise. See my review on the movies for more details.
March 30th, 2011 at 7:14 pm
I disagree now. The worst superhero movie ever (now) is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Gavin Hood REALLY failed on this one. And Tsotsi was so good….
March 31st, 2011 at 12:36 am
Yea X-Men Origins: Wolverine was pretty bad. Seen a lot of comments here about Daredevil, which i think is a shame because it’s hugely underrated, especially ‘The Director’s Cut’ that i personally think is very good.
March 31st, 2011 at 6:17 pm
It really wasn’t that bad, I agree… now Elektra was another story.
March 31st, 2011 at 9:19 pm
Yea Elektra was a poor spin-off, i like Jennifer Garner but the film was poorly concieved, a rushed attempt at extending a character’s story.
April 1st, 2011 at 4:32 am
agreed completely.
