I’ts a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)

Greed is a trope used in the realm of fiction to be associated with drama, and usually involves some very thematic elements to it. Yet the theme really has not been associated with the genre of comedy. Enter the 1963 film “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, a comedy that showcases a lot of […]

St. Vincent (2014)

This movie opens up with our main character telling a very dry joke, which sets up the tone for the rest of the film. “St. Vincent” is a comedy that puts focus on one grumpy old man trying to come to terms with his life. The resulting effort is a gem of originality that has […]

Big Hero 6 (2014)

Ever since Disney purchased Marvel back in 2009, we have gotten a lot of good action/superhero films that have a strong connection to their continuity. However, with today’s feature, Marvel and Disney are branching out and creating something completely different. The finalized product is the motion picture for today “Big Hero 6” based off Marvel’s […]

  1. God damn it J.C. I still haven’t seen any of these films! But i really want to see all of them! And your list has just reminded me how out of touch i have been with films from this year! Looks like i will be spending a lot of money on dvd/blu-rays! haha

  2. Micah Blowers says:

Cool idea for a list. J.C. you always remind that I don’t have to get obsessed with every article that I write, and I can write cool and quick ideas like this. I was contemplating it, but haven’t seen the Tree of Life yet.

  3. Great list!

I’d like to see more niche lists, such as best zombies movies (I think JC has a list on this, too), best comedy, best thriller, best rip-off, etc. Would be great if anyone can come up with these.

  4. I think I have one of all of those (especially the zombie one haha). But thanks guys. And Micah: The Tree of Life is amazing. Daniel: Yes, you need to see them all!

  5. Dustin Lerch says:

I’d have to say Super 8 is my favorite film of the year so far. Tree of Life and Source Code are both right there though. Leonardo DiCaprio would have to be in there for J. Edgar as well. Nice list. I’ve seen all of them except Moneyball thus far.

  6. Yeah, I’d agree that Super 8 is winning so far for my vote for best movie of the year.
